Stewart began training as a gymnast from the age of five and a few years later began ballroom dancing.  He won numerous state and interstate titles in ballroom dancing.  In 1980 he ran third in the World Ballroom Dancing Championships in Perth.  Stewart studied classical and modern dance at the Victorian College of the Arts during 1982.  While at the V.C.A., Stewart appeared with the Victorian Arts Dance Company, Kolobok Dance Company and the Victoria State Opera.  Stewart has also performed with the Australian Contemporary Dance Company, the Dance Centre Company of Australia, appeared on the Mike Walsh Show, and was a member of the original cast of West Side Story and Cats.  In 1986 Stewart danced in Starz at Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast, and more recently in the “Aquacade” at World Expo ’88 in Brisbane.
